Ban On Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Demanded, This Is Makers’ Response

The TV show ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ which is broadcast by channel Sony SAB landed in trouble. The show has been accused of hurting religious sentiments of Sikh community.

A ban on the show was demanded by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Sunday for allegedly portraying acts that hurt the Sikh beliefs.

SGPC chief Kripal Singh said that the program showed a living character playing the tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, which was “against the Sikh tenets” because no character can equate himself with the tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh.

“No actor or any character can equate himself with the tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh. Such an act is unpardonable” the statement read.

Now the makers of the show has claimed that the episode 2287 depicted the character Sodhi portraying Guru Gobind Singh Ji ka Khalsa and not Guru Gobind Singh himself.

Makers clarified their position in a tweet that in that particular episode of TMKOC, Sodhi was dressed up as Guru Gobindh Ji Ka Khalsa that means a soldier or ‘Sant’ of Guru Gobind Singh and requested viewers to not misinterpret it any other way.

Earlier talking to Bollywoodlife.com, Munmun Dutta who plays Babita on the show told, “Gurucharan is a staunch Sikh himself will never do and speak anything that goes against the sentiments of Sikhs all around the world. I clearly remember having a conversation with him about this particular sequence on the day of the shoot and he had mentioned that nobody is allowed to play Guru Gobind Singh ji and thus he is enacting the role of his Khalsa”

“People who have raised objections about it have clearly not seen the sequence. I wish they had made the effort to see it first where the character Sodhi clearly states that he is his Khalsa and not him”, she added.

Gurucharan Singh Sodhi also clarified his stand in this video. He says that the character clearly said that “Guru Gobind Ji Ka Khalsa” and how the character’s description got hidden behind the disclaimer.
